Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a form of submission wrestling. BJJ techniques
originated from Japanese Judo. The techniques were brought to Brazil by a Japanese prize fighter who taught the art
to a Brazilian family named Gracie. BJJ techniques are structured on "base" (balance) and leverage, making it possible
to render a larger and stronger opponent ineffective.
BJJ was created by Helio Gracie in the early 1900's. Helio presented
a standing challenge all fighters in the world, regardless of their size, style or experience to compete against him.
Members of the Gracie family are still widely regarded as some of the greatest fighters in the world.
BJJ matches are generally won by someone being submitted or "tapping
out". Submissions in BJJ can come from arm locks, leg locks, and chokes.
